Keeping Your GP Consultations
Under 10 Minutes
Magic Do
- The patient has one minute to tell the story - only.
Over one minute> A "Dick Tracey" moment:
Hold everything. How am I going to end this?
- What is the real reason the patient is here – address this.
- Sequenced management plans
e.g. basic blood test >> later more comprehensive blood tests
e.g. x-ray >> later other x-rays.
If you order to test on one visit,
you will need to explain to tests and organise further management
i.e. three items on the next visit by the patient.
The more you do, the more you will be asked to do.
Not necessarily right away.
And the angrier they will be if you do not do it. (now or later).
Serve you right.
- No decision trees. Come back on - date/day.
Never do decision trees – only do - -- - come back at this time to check.
(Not: if A – do this, if B do this next).
